Our Story
Mr. Don Edmiston is the Founder and Head Instructor of Friendly City Taekwon-Do. The School bears the prestigious I.T.F. licencing plaque #608055, making it a licensed International Taekwon-Do Federation training facility. Mr. Edmiston is currently a certified 4th Degree Black belt (C-4-280) in the International Taekwon-Do Federation. Friendly City Taekwon-Do is also a member in good standing with the Canadian Taekwon-Do Federation International (C.T.F.I.).
Meet The Instructors
Mr. Edmiston started Taekwon-Do in February 1995. Now, with over 25 years teaching and training in Taekwon-Do (TKD), he’s had many great achievements. As a competitor, he has medalled in invitational tournaments as well as being a Provincial, National, and International Champion.
After retiring from competition in 2002, Mr. Edmiston opened a new school in Woodstock, Ontario (which is known as the “Friendly City”). Since opening day, his main goal has been to provide a safe, clean, and fun environment for kids and adults to learn TKD. Along the way he has produced over forty 1st and 2nd Degree Black Belts, as well as hundreds of excellent coloured belts.
Mr. Edmiston continues to attend International Instructor Courses and trains under Grand Masters, Masters and World Champions on a regular basis to give his students the best possible training.

Assistant Instructors
II Degree
Ms. Samara McFerran II Degree
(certificate number C-2-7461)
Ms. McFerran started Taekwon-Do in March, 2015. At first, she was quiet and reserved. Taekwon-Do helped her build her confidence and learn to speak up for herself and others. Now, she is not so quiet and a little more outspoken.

Ms. McFerran loves teaching the younger kids and watching them grow… starting off from a little plant and becoming a towering tree. She is looking forward to continuing her training as an Instructor, and further developing her Taekwon-Do skills, while helping and teaching others along the way.
I Degree
Mr. Theo Wright I Degree
(certificate number C-1-7729)
Mr. Wright started Taekwon-Do in 2018, and fell in love with the Martial Art of Taekwon-Do very quickly. He started training at every opportunity he could; within a year, he lost 100lb. He participates in Canadian Taekwon-Do Competitions whenever he can.

Mr. Wright's favourite part of Taekwon-Do is Patterns, with teaching junior students a close second. He is looking forward to continuing his training and competing more in Canada and around the world. Earning his II Degree is his main goal at the moment.
